Crista Huff’s Goodfellow LLC Portfolios Outperformed Hedge Fund Manager Dan Loeb in February 2014

I ran across this article while searching news on Dow Chemical today:  Hedge fund manager Dan Loeb scores 4.4 percent gain in February.

I thought to myself, “So what?  Why is 4.4% newsworthy?”.  I was pretty sure that the two sample portfolios for 2014 on my website had done at least that well in February, so I quickly looked at the month-end records.  The Goodfellow LLC Growth Stock Portfolio for 2014 rose 8.12% in February (including dividends earned), and the Goodfellow LLC Growth & Income Stock Portfolio for 2014 rose 5.56%.

Of the twelve stocks in my growth stock portfolio, six of them have risen between 9% and 32% year-to-date through today.

For comparison, here are the month-end performance numbers in January and February.

The Reuters article continued praising Mr. Loeb and his Third Point Offshore Fund. “Loeb’s investment moves are closely watched because his $14 billion Third Point has long ranked among the hedge fund industry’s strongest performers.”  Then the author threw in a few lower-performing hedge fund managers, for good measure.

I wonder how much Mr. Loeb is being paid to underperform Goodfellow LLC?  May I have some of that salary, please?

The performance of my sample stock portfolios is posted in the top right corner of the Goodfellow LLC website, late every Friday.  The portfolios are “samples” because I am not a fund manager.  They are fixed portfolios, published on my website on January first each year; and additional portfolios are published during the year at opportune moments, such asat the bottom of market corrections.

People subscribe to Goodfellow LLC for excellent growth stock ideas.  They can watch my sample portfolios to get a fair idea of my ability to make stock selections which outperform the S&P 500, and apparently outperform the popular hedge fund managers as well.
